When looking for a great place to go camping, it can be hard to know where to start. You could use an online campsite finder, but sometimes it helps to hear it from someone who’s been there.
So we thought, who better to ask than a few of our friendly team members. They’re keen on camping and ready to share their favourite spots and tips with you.

Favourite camping spot
“Big Valley Campsite, just outside Margaret River in Western Australia. It’s a beautiful 1,000-acre property where a sheep farmer and his family have opened up a few of their paddocks to guests to come with caravans and tents. It’s amazing – camp fires every night, access to numerous walking tracks around the property and swimming in the dam. Local shops and beaches are just minutes up the road and vineyards surround the property.”
Best camping tip
“Always pack a roll of duct tape in your supplies. It fixes everything! Leaks in the tent, broken ropes, loose handles on pots and pans…everything!”

“Hastings Point in Northern New South Wales. This small town has the best coastal community feel and it’s only 35 minutes north to Tweed Heads or south to Byron Bay. There’s so much to explore, whether it’s a short hike up a mountain that overlooks the ocean, a visit to the inland lakes where you can fish or swim, or just relaxing on the white sandy beaches.”
Best camping tip
“Bring a cordless drill. Rather than struggling to push pesky tent pegs into the ground, grab a few large bolts and drill them into place instead. The time you save and the amount of pegs you don’t bend or damage is incredible! Plus, it gives you more time to relax with loved ones or a book.”

Favourite camping spot
“Borumba Dam camping grounds at Imbil, about 1.5 hours inland from the Sunshine Coast. There are two great spots here – one by the dam and the other at the deer park – both of which are kid-friendly and offer freshwater swimming, along with the chance to catch fish and yabbies. You can also go water skiing, wake boarding and boating on the dam, plus there are some of the best 4WD and motocross tracks to explore. The sunsets out there are epic!”
Best camping tip
“Don’t forget the zip ties. Having a selection of tie sizes may seem excessive but they’re so useful for keeping things in place, holding a blown hose on the 4WD when you’re up a mountain, and making sure the fly cover on your tent doesn’t blow away when the wind picks up unexpectedly. So many things. I guarantee zip ties will come in handy when you least expect it!”
